Company History
The company was established in the small town of Oeslau in 1871 by the father and son pairing of Franz and William Goebel. Their first kiln was established in the shadow of Coburg castle in Bavaria. The firm is most famous for the production of Hummel figurines, and is still in operation today under the leadership of a fifth generation of the Goebel family. Marks Sadly the mark shown here is somewhat blurred, however it represents a bee inside a V shape, beneath which is W. Germany (which dates this to the post war period). ![]() Novelty Match
Strikers
These two novelty match strikers are bright, fun items. They are glazed both inside and out except for the narrow striking pads (on the frogs back, and fishes belly). I am unsure whether the fish should have red eyes like the frog or not as I bought it with them, however the paint was water soluble and washed off when cleaning. ![]() |
